The report sheds light on the socio-economic situation of Syrian refugees in both Jordan and Lebanon, and warns against the refugee poverty trap.

An understanding of the poverty situation is important in order to identify ways of turning elements of the crisis into opportunities. International experiences have shown that under certain circumstances refugees can contribute to their host countries’ economies by becoming consumers, workers, and even investors.

The launching event will be attended by representatives from Syrian refugees’ hosting countries from the Middle East and Europe, development agency partners, academia, media and civil society. It will include a series of discussions on:

  • What can European and Mashreq countries learn from their respective experiences in hosting refugees?
  • How can the mid-term issue of refugees be addressed in order to build Syrian refugee’s livelihood and self-reliance through the creation of economic opportunities?
  • What resources and what multi-partner collaborations are needed to support refugee and host communities’ welfare?

The agenda of the event available here. The full report accessible here.
