Stan Becker is a professor emeritus in the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) School of Public Health. He obtained his doctorate in demography at the Population Dynamics Department of JHU. Then, over a twelve year period he worked as a demographer at the International Centre for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh, at L’Institut National d’etudes Demographiques in Paris, at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium and at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control as an Epidemiology Intelligence Service officer. In 1987 he was appointed faculty in the Population Dynamics department at JHU. He has taught hundreds of students over the years including in two courses he created: “Couples and Reproductive Health” and “Population, Health and Development” He is an author of over one hundred articles. He is currently chair of an IUSSP panel on couples and reproductive health.
