Valérie Tehio has been Deputy Director of AFD’s Education-Training-Employment Division, responsible for education and higher education, since 2013. An alumnus of the École Normale Supérieure de Paris, she began her career as a lecturer at the University of Paris 8. After some experience in international cooperation in Singapore and Buenos Aires, in 2005, she joined the French Association of Education Administrators then, in 2007, the Sèvres International Center for Pedagogical Studies. She joined AFD in 2010.

“Supporting youth integration does not solely depend on flow management”

The increasing duration of schooling drives sub-Saharan African countries to build differentiated paths based on secondary education. For Valérie Tehio and Alexia Levesque, we need to move beyond this logic of flow management.

For them, preparing the economic and social integration of young people requires considering the skills that need to be developed and distinguishing between flow management for a mass of students and support towards professionalization.
