Biography

Selim Jahan, Director of UNDP's Human Development Report Office since 2014, was its Deputy Director from 1993 to 2001. He was previously Director of the Poverty Practice in the Bureau for Development Policy in New York (2007-2014). Prior to joining UNDP in 1992, Selim Jahan was a Professor of Economics at the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh, Visiting Scholar at the School of Public Policy of the University of Maryland (USA), and lecturer at McGill University in Montreal (Canada), where he obtained his PhD in Economics. He is the author of ten books and has been a consultant for the the International Labour Organization (ILO), UNDP, UNESCO and World Bank.
