Sami Bouarfa is a senior scientist in hydrology and agronomy, specialized in water and agriculture issues in France and internationally. He has more than 25 years of research experience in the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment INRAE. He is currently part-time Deputy Head of Department in the AQUA department, and part-time researcher in Montpellier (UMR G-EAU). He has participated in about twenty research and development projects in France and abroad and has published more than a hundred scientific or technical articles on the environmental impacts of irrigation in France and in southern countries and on water use in agriculture. Sami Bouarfa is currently Director of the Scientific and Technical Committee for Agricultural Water financed by the French Development Agency and managed by the French Association for Water, Irrigation and Drainage (AFEID) of which he is Secretary General.
