Rob Hopkins was born in London in 1968. He holds a PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences from Plymouth University and has lectured in permaculture in Ireland. He holds a blog on transition initiatives, Transition Culture and has contributed to launching this process in the town of Totnes (Devon, 7,700 inhabitants) in the UK. He won the Ethical Award from the British newspaper The Observer in 2009 and the Green Community Hero award in the same year from the daily newspaper The Guardian.
He is the author of three publications: The Transition Handbook: From Oil Dependency to Local Resilience, Chelsea Green Publishing, 2008, The Power of Just Doing Stuff: How Local Action Can Change the World, Green Books, 2013, and Ils changent le monde ! 1001 initiatives de transition écologique, Editions du Seuil, Paris, 2014.
