Patrick Youssef joined the ICRC in 2005 and carried out various missions, notably in Sudan, Chad, Iraq and Guantanamo Bay. Appointed Deputy Regional Director for Africa in January 2016, he then managed the ICRC’s operations in the Maghreb, the Sahel region, the Lake Chad basin and West Africa. He has served as Regional Director for Africa since 2020.
In January 2016, he joined the closed circle of Young World Leaders appointed by the World Economic Forum. He currently sits on the International Board of Advisors of Global Dignity.
Born in 1978 in Lebanon, Patrick Youssef holds a master’s degree in diplomacy and strategic negotiations from the University of Paris-Sud XI, as well as a master’s degree in advanced studies in international law in armed conflicts from the University of Geneva.
