Nergis Gülasan is a Policy Specialist at the Strategic Policy Unit of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in New York. She provides advisory and policy support to advance UNDP’s positioning in global development processes, including the implementation of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development and financing for development. She has been working at UNDP since 2007, when she joined the Executive Office as a researcher. Her previous experience also includes working with UNDP’s Office of Development Studies and the Bureau for Development Policy. Nergis received her B.A. in Economics from Bogazici University in Istanbul, and her M.Sc. in Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, where she worked as a teaching assistant. She also holds an M.A. in European Politics and Policy from New York University

Financing development through better domestic resource mobilization

Over the last 15 years, developing countries have increased domestic revenues by on average 14% annually. The domestic revenues of developing economies amounted to USD 7.7 trillion in 2012 ; that’s USD 6 trillion more than in 2000. Domestic resources are the largest, most important and most stable source of finance for development. Can we expect these resources to keep on increasing in the coming years?
