Maurice Bernard, a graduate engineer from the Ecole Centrale de Paris, immediately oriented his professional activity towards public policies for the environment and sustainable development, with a focus on the water and sanitation sector. He has over 30 years of experience in designing, rehabilitating, operating and managing environmental infrastructure and related public services, which he has acquired both in France and at international level. His additional training in economics and the various management positions he has held (in NGOs, consultancy and engineering, public service operation, as a business leader and with donors) have given him comprehensive expertise in environmental policies and sustainable development.

Prior to taking up his position in Colombia, Maurice Bernard successively held the following positions at AFD’s headquarters: Head of the Water and Sanitation Division from 2006 to 2010, then Director of Sustainable Development (water, energy, transport, agriculture, natural resources) from 2011 to 2014.
