Marie-Pierre NICOLLET was born on 15 October 1964 and graduated from the Paris Institute for Political Studies (IEP) (1989) and Ecole Normale Supérieure of Fontenay-Saint-Cloud (1984-1988). She also obtained a CAPES in Economic and Social Sciences and was a listener at IHEDN (the Institute of Higher National Defence Studies) in 2000/2001.
Following initial teaching experience in a deprived suburb in the Paris region, she decided to specialize in development economics and to join Agence Française de Développement (AFD) in 1989. In 1997, she was called to the office of AFD’s Chief Executive Officer as Chief of Staff, a position she held from 1997 to 2001 and during which she supported the increase in the Group’s operations in the Maghreb region and took part in reflection prior to the extension of AFD’s geographical mandate. In December 2006, Marie-Pierre NICOLLET was tasked with setting up a representation for AFD Group in Brasilia and participating in the definition of a strategy for AFD Group’s operations in Brazil. In 2009, she was appointed head of the Strategic Steering Division at headquarters, a position in which she took part in the review of the Group’s operations in its new geographical areas and adapted in-house strategic and operational programming processes.
She was Director of the Mediterranean and Middle East Department in AFD’s Operations Department from 2010 to 2015. Since April 2015, she has been Director of the Human Development Department (health, education, employment, training and social protection), which became the Demographic and Social Transitions Department in 2017.
