Josette Sheeran, an American diplomat born in 1954, was Deputy Secretary of State in charge of economic, commercial, energy and agricultural affairs in the Bush administration, a position she held from 23rd August 2005 until she was appointed as the 11th Chief Executive Officer of the World Food Program (WFP) of United Nations from March, 2007 to April, 2012. In 2006, Mrs Sheeran was also appointed member of the high-level Group on the coherence of the United Nations' action in the fields of development, humanitarian aid and environmental protection, by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. She was also Vice-President of the World Economic Forum between April, 2012 and June, 2013.
Since June, 2013 Josette Sheeran is President and Executive Director of Asia Society, a pan-asian organization which aims at strengthening the relations between Asian and American leaders and institutions.
Josette Sheeran holds a Bachelor degree in Journalism and Communication from the University of Colorado and a Master degree in International Relations from Harvard University.
