Since 2011, Jean Michel Severino has headed a set of impact investment Funds dedicated to Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in sub-Saharan Africa. He is also a Senior Fellow of FERDI and a member of the Technologies Academy.
Among other job positions, he has been director of development at the French Ministry of International Cooperation, vice-president for East Asia at the World Bank (1996-2000) and Director General of the French Development Agency (AFD) from 2001 to 2010. During this period, he extended the AFD’s mandates to a large number of new countries and emerging challenges (climate change, biodiversity, growth, etc.) and promoted the concept of global public goods as a new engine of official development assistance. In 2012 and 2013, he was a member of the high level Panel on the post 2015 agenda of the Secretary General of the United Nations. He has published several books on development assistance, including L’’Aide Publique au Développement in 2007 (Editions La Découverte) and Idées Reçues sur le Développement in 2010 (Edition Le Cavalier Bleu).
