Jean-Marie Dulix Théodat was born in Port-au-Prince in 1961. Following secondary studies in Haiti, he studied geography at the University of Paris Sorbonne up to the agrégation. He subsequently undertook PhD studies on the theme of the double insularity caused by the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. He was recruited as a lecturer at the University Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne, where he lectured in political, economic and cultural geography from 1998 to 2010. He has been living in Haiti since 2010. He has been working as an International Technical Expert at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2012.
