Jan Orbie is an Associate Professor at the Political Science Department and Director of the Centre for EU Studies (CEUS) at Ghent University. His research concerns the European Union’s external relations. He has been the (co)supervisor of more than 25 PhDs over the past decade, most of which deal with EU relations with the Global South. He has published extensively on conceptual and empirical debates in EU external trade, development, humanitarian aid, democracy promotion, social and climate change policies. He has also contributed to policy-oriented studies for the European Parliament, International Labour Organization (ILO), European Trade Union Institute (ETUI), European Centre for Development Policy and Management (ECDPM), and 11.11.11.

EU donor coordination in fragile states: towards a facilitator role for EU
Despite a consensus on the need for European donor coordination in fragile States, best practices are still too rare. Bottom-up coordination practices seem more promising than top-down projects.
