Gilles Yabi, 41, is a Beninese political analyst and economist based in Dakar and an independent consultant who analyzes conflicts, security and political governance in West Africa. He is the author of a blog (gillesyabi.blogspot.com) and, in December 2014, founded WATHI, a citizen, participatory and multidisciplinary think tank on West African dynamics. Gilles Yabi holds a Ph.D. in Development Economics (University of Clermont-Ferrand, France), and was formerly a journalist at the weekly newspaper Jeune Afrique and, for seven years, from 2007 to 2013, Senior Political Analyst then Director of the West Africa Office (in Dakar) of International Crisis Group (ICG), an international NGO which works to prevent and resolve armed conflicts.
