Christian Bouquet started out as a teacher-researcher in Chad (1968-1979), where he did his doctoral thesis on the Lake Chad region. He continued his career at other African universities (Madagascar, Central African Republic), before being seconded to the French Ministry for Foreign Affairs (1984-2001) as a Cultural Advisor to the French embassies in Niger, the Comoros, Djibouti, Madagascar and Côte d’Ivoire.
He then returned to his university (Bordeaux-Montaigne), where he specialized in African political geography, including electoral and rural property issues.
