

Askwar Hilonga, a Tanzanian nanotechnology engineer, obtained a PhD in Chemistry in South Korea. In 2015, at the age of 38, he launched his model of a water purification nanofilter, which earned him the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation from the British Royal Academy of Engineering Academy, which came with 33,000 euros. His company, Gongali Model, markets it in Tanzania and Kenya. He continues to lecture at the Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology (NMAIST) in the Engineering Department of the University of Arusha
