The 6th edition of the Convergences 2015 World Forum is being held in Paris from 17 to 19 September 2013, in partnership with ID4D.
Convergences 2015 was launched in 2008 and is a platform for reflection intended to build new convergences between public, private and solidarity-based actors in order to combat poverty and vulnerability in both Northern and Southern countries.
Convergences 2015 is chaired by Jean-Michel Severino, former CEO of Agence Française de Développement, and today gathers over 200 partners to debate the issues of international cooperation, microfinance, social entrepreneurship and the environment.
“We are the first generation in the history of mankind to have the means to totally eradicate extreme poverty”. Jean-Michel Severino
Every year, the Convergences 2015 World Forum marks the culmination of the platform’s reflection and gathers over 5,000 participants from various sectors (experts, public sector, enterprises, civil society, media, research and students) and from all over the world.
The 2013 edition of the Convergences 2015 World Forum will be a key event on the challenges of jointly building a sustainable and equitable society.
During the opening session, Anne Hidalgo, First Deputy to the Mayor of Paris, called for the need to rely on support from woman in order to move forward with decentralization and work with local authorities. Anne Paugam, Chief Executive Officer of AFD, pointed out that development today requires coalitions of actors and highlighted the importance of this type of event, where partnerships are established to take action, reflect and innovate.
Jean-Michel Severino subsequently introduced the first conference on the topic “The world we want: What visions for the post 2015?” by declaring that “We are the first generation in the history of mankind to have the means to totally eradicate extreme poverty”.
During the three-day event, over 60 high-level debates, interactive workshops and networking sessions will be organized based on three main topics:
- What are the main challenges for building a more sustainable and equitable society?
- How can each public, private and solidarity-based actor improve their practices?
- How can these actors work better together?
